Over a dozen iconic, heavy steel bridges span the massive Willamette River right before it drains into the Columbia. The map is fiercely characterized by incredibly small, pedestrian-friendly blocks in the downtown core, violently halting at the massive, dark green expanse of Forest Park on the western hills.
Portland — the city's layout
A custom map poster of Portland, United States turns a meaningful location into personalized wall art — completely free with MapPoster.
Famous for its obsessive coffee culture, food carts, and the passionate Timber Army chanting at Providence Park, Portland is fiercely independent. Rain-soaked pine green, deep, moody Pacific Northwest grey, or rich earthy brown tones perfectly match the weird, rugged vibe of Oregon.
Portland's grid system is one of the smallest in North America, with 200-foot blocks that make the city remarkably walkable and give its map an unusually dense, textured appearance. The contrast between the flat east side, home to Hawthorne, Alberta, and the food cart pods, and the forested West Hills creates a dramatic visual split. Mount Hood's snow-capped peak watches over everything from the east, an ever-present landmark that anchors the city's identity and outdoor culture.
