About Oxford
Oxford's map reveals a medieval city core where the University of Oxford's 39 colleges are woven into the urban fabric like jewels in a crown. The High Street, 'The High', curves majestically from Carfax Tower to Magdalen Bridge, flanked by college facades spanning 800 years of architecture. The Bodleian Library complex, the Radcliffe Camera's perfect dome, and the Sheldonian Theatre cluster in the heart of the university quarter. The Thames (called the Isis in Oxford) and the Cherwell river converge south of Christ Church Meadow, creating the famous punting waters and flood meadows that keep the city center remarkably green.
