About Tromsø
Tromsø spreads across the island of Tromsøya and surrounding shores, 350 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The city's map is dominated by water, the narrow Tromsøysundet strait separates the island from the mainland to the east, crossed by the iconic Tromsø Bridge, while the broader Sandnessundet lies to the west. The Arctic Cathedral's striking triangular silhouette stands on the mainland shore, facing the compact city center across the strait. The university campus, the world's northernmost, occupies the island's northern reaches, while the cable car to Storsteinen mountain offers panoramic views from 421 meters.
