Genoa is violently slammed against the Ligurian Sea, possessing one of the most sheer, aggressive, and vertical geographies in Italy. The incredibly dense, ancient grid is completely trapped, crushed powerfully between the deep, massive working port to the south and the shockingly steep, immediate rise of the Apennine Mountains to the north. The city literally climbs the walls.
Genoa — the city's layout
A custom map poster of Genoa, Italy turns a meaningful location into personalized wall art — completely free with MapPoster.
The 'Caruggi', the impossibly tight, labyrinthine medieval alleys of the old town, look practically solid on a map because they are so desperately close together, abruptly ending at the colossal, straight concrete piers of the modernized harbor. Deep, faded Mediterranean terra-cotta, rich, proud maritime blue, or stark, shadowy slate greys completely capture the grand, faded glory and raw power of 'La Superba'.
